Overview

3rd Multi-Disciplinary Approach to Cancer Therapy Conference January 2013

Cancer occurrence in United Arab Emirates has been increasing in the last few decades and cancer patterns are changing rapidly. Cancer is the third leading cause of death in the UAE following cardiovascular diseases and road accidents. As identified by the HAAD Health statistics in 2010, cancer accounts for 15% of death in the UAE in 2009.

This Conference aims to provide delegates with in-depth information on the latest innovations in cancer therapy from new techniques in Surgical Oncology, updates on Nuclear Medicine, development in Radiation Oncology, advancement in Pharmaceutical Oncology as well as regional perspective on cancer management.

Word of the Chairman

Surgical oncology is not teaching surgeons how to operate; it is more a science of educating surgeons on how to approach cancer patients aiming to formulate a complex yet comprehensive formula of management according to the underlying disease, age, comorbidities and life style. The advances in the surgical oncology practice are based on successful multidisciplinary approach as well as incorporating the capacities and capabilities of the medical institutes available in the region. The primary objective of the 2nd Multi-Disciplinary Approach to Cancer Therapy Conference was to address cancer as a disease entity in the era of multidisciplinary therapy. The conference will cover the management of the most common cancer cases in the UAE, including Colorectal, GI, Breast and Sarcoma. Over the duration of 2 days; the conference will present valuable case studies and discussion panels to address the recent advances in cancer management in the fields of medical oncology, radiation therapy, and surgical oncology.
