Is enough being done to fight child mortality?

Though the recent UNICEF report on child mortality shows progress is being made in every region to prevent childhood deaths,

"it is clear that we still need to increase the coverage of high-impact, low-cost interventions like vaccines, including those for pneumonia and diarrhea that are rolling out,"

Melinda Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, writes in a post on the foundation's "Impatient Optimists" blog.

Declining child mortality is "a great indicator of where global development is heading," but "[w]e must constantly ask ourselves -- how will we lower this number again next year? Are we doing all that we can?" she concludes (9/22).
