  • A conference of specialists in the field revealed during a discussion on Saturday that most patients suffering from mental illnesses refer to spiritual healers because their families diagnose and associate their condition with religious faults.

  • Each year more than 800,000 Americans undergo hip or knee replacement surgery. Last week the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) Board of Directs released an updated clinical practice guideline with recommendation strategies for the reduction of potential blood clot formation following hip or knee replacement surgery.

  • Diabetes continues to spread at an alarming rate and afflicts a staggering 366 million people to date. Recent reports from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) indicate that diabetes is "a massive challenge the world can no longer afford to ignore". The condition causes 4.6 million deaths a year and a healthcare spend of 465 billion USD

 


 

  • Prostate Cancer Patient Survival
  • Alpharadin (radium-223 chloride) was found to improve overall survival by patients with CRPC (castration-resistant prostate cancer) and symptomatic bone metastases - survival rates improved by 44%, presenters explained at the Presidential Session at the 2011 European Multidisciplinary Cancer Congress in Stockholm, Sweden. The presenters described how the Phase 3 ALSYMPCA (ALpharadin in SYMptomatic Prostate CAncer) trial met its primary endpoint - significantly improving overall survival
 

 

 

 

 

 

  • New Assays Simultaneously Visulize Gene number
  • Researchers have discovered a method for simultaneously visualizing gene number and protein expression in individual cells. The fluorescence microscopy technique could permit a detailed analysis of the relationship between gene status and expression of the corresponding protein in cells and tissues, and bring a clearer understanding of cancer and other complex diseases, according to researchers who led the study.
