Categories of Awards

The 2009 Arab Health Achievement and Innovation Awards will be divided into a number of different categories.  Criteria that should be shown in the Award submission is listed under each category and should be addressed in the synopsis and supporting material.

The categories of Awards are:

  1. Specialist Achievement Award - Imaging and Diagnostics
    Presented to the organisation or individual that has made the greatest contribution in the field of imaging.  Criteria for selection;
    • Demonstrates innovation
    • Improved quality of care
    • Improved cost / effectiveness
    • Leads to more rapid and accurate diagnosis

  2. Specialist Achievement Award - Surgery
    Presented to the organisation or individual that has made the greatest contribution in the field of surgery. Criteria for selection;
    • Shortens the patients hospital stay
    • Improves cost / effectiveness
    • Improves safety
    • Less traumatic

  3. Roche Specialist Achievement Award - Laboratory
    Presented to the organisation or individual that has made the greatest contribution in the field of medical laboratory.  Criteria for selection:
    • Reduces cost
    • More effective
    • Improves results
    • Advances medical laboratory services in the Middle East

  4. Specialist Achievement Award - Quality Healthcare Improvement Initiative
    Presented to the individual/group or hospital who has developed the most effective quality improvement initiative. Criteria for selection:
    • Demonstrates innovation
    • Creates a more efficient process
    • Provides a better healing environment
    • Improved efficiency of delivery and services

  5. Specialist Achievement Award - Emergency Medical Services
    Presented to the individual group or organisation who has made an exceptional impact to Emergency Medical Services.  Criteria for selection:
    • Demonstrates innovation
    • Supports public health needs
    • Improves patient access
    • Improved responsiveness in emergency situations

  6. Hospital Education / Training Initiative Award
    Presented to the hospital that made the most significant improvements leading to accreditation.  Criteria for selection:
    • Number of hours each member of staff received
    • International accreditation of education
    • Number of training days

  7. Infection Control Initiative Award
    Presented to the organisation that improved its infection control program.  Criteria for selection:
    • Has an active infection control program
    • Reduced infection rate significantly in the last 12 months
    • Has an accurate infection control reporting and analysis system
    • Has an infection control program supported by microbiological diagnostic services
      
  8. Capsule Specialist Achievement Award - Information Technology
    Presented to the organisation or individual that has made the greatest
    contribution in the field of Information Technology. Criteria for selection;
    • Reductions in errors
    • Improved Quality of Care
    • Improved Safety
    • Increased efficiency and functionality of hospital management
    • Enhanced speed of response from various business units
    • Enhanced transparency of financial management and reporting
    • Interoperability of information systems
    • User friendly technology
