The Medical Laboratory Part Of Arab Health

As a crucial component of healthcare, laboratory medicine provides all those involved in the healthcare system with vital information that can make a difference in the quality, safety and efficiency of care given to patients. Doctors across all specialties depend on laboratory results to make critical decisions about the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease.

As an integral part of the Arab Health Exhibition and Congress, Medlab increased in exhibition space from 6,000 to 8,000sqm this year, allowing existing exhibitors to expand their presence and new companies to join. Medlab is the leading Medical Laboratory and Technology event in the Middle East and attracted more than 15% of the overall visitors to Arab Health.

Roche Diagnostics have been a longstanding exhibitor at Medlab for many years and 2011 saw the introduction of Zelboraf, which is very efficient in treating metastatic malignant melanoma.
“The development of the Middle East medical laboratory market over the last few years has proven that our decision to invest more efforts and resources in supporting the Arab Health Exhibition was a very good decision,” said Dr Michael Heuer, president of Roche in the Middle East and Africa. “Due to the importance of this market, we have decided to increase our position and resources with our newly opened Dubai-based Management Centre for Diagnostics.”

In line with Arab Health’s philosophy of ‘Exhibition with Education’, the 2012 congress featured 18 conferences addressed by over 300 internationally acclaimed speakers. One of the largest within the congress was the Medlab conference, which attracted 2200 delegates over the four days and was a complete sell-out several weeks in advance of Arab Health opening its doors.

“Our Medlab conference has once again proved to be our most popular,” said Simon Page, Director of Life Sciences at Informa Exhibitions, organisers of Arab Health. “Every year, Medlab provides delegates with an opportunity to learn about the latest advances in science and their application in laboratory medicine, which will advance their overall practice through improving patient outcomes.”
The conference covered a diverse range of subjects relating to laboratory medicine from immunology and microbiology through to clinical chemistry and laboratory management. “We hope that next year, even more delegates will join us to hear about cutting-edge technologies, how to optimise resources and decrease turn-around times so laboratory professionals can more accurately and quickly diagnose a patient’s condition,” said Mariam Oudah, Conference Producer for Medlab.

The continued growth of the healthcare industry coupled with the importance of achieving certification in the management of medical laboratories in the Middle East have attracted the attention of medical specialist world. Poised to attract even more direct foreign investments this year, growth in the Middle East will be driven by the favourable regulatory environment along with the completion of major healthcare building projects across the region. The success of Medlab 2012 has paved the way for an even bigger and better event in 2013.
