Arab Health Ebook 2011

In the GCC, the healthcare workforce is very diverse in terms of culture and training backgrounds, which induce differences when communicating to patients. Recent studies show that despite the needs for comprehensive medical services in the region, there is still a gap in communication and fundamental clinical skills of healthcare practitioners. A minimum standard of competency and expertise should be created to ensure quality and patient safety. This strain is further challenged as a large portion of the healthcare workforce is transient in the region, creating a high turnover rate.

In this month’s issue of the Arab Health e-book we speak to Dr Sarper H. Tanli, Executive Director of Methodist International, Europe-Middle East-Africa, about the role of simulation training in educating the region’s healthcare workforce.

I hope you enjoy reading this issue of Arab Health e-book, and feel free to comment on any of the articles.

Merivaara introduces novelties for the operating theatre and maternity unit

With 110 years experience in making beds and other hospital furniture, Finnish company Merivaara is ready to introduce its novelties at Arab Health 2012. Merivaara displays its solutions for the operating room, maternity unit and patient ward in Hall 6 stand D30.

New birthing bed increases comfort in the maternity unit

The new Optima delivery bed has been designed in cooperation with midwives. Particular focus has been on ergonomics, safety and mobility to help create a better environment for mother, newborn and the nursing staff.

Being fully modular, the Optima delivery bed is suitable for all stages of labour and can adapt to individual customer needs. Offering a wide range of positions in the same unit, Optima enhances comfort and minimises the risk of awkward postures and strain. The bed and its accessories are easy to clean.

For enhanced safety, the bed includes electrically-powered Trendelenburg positions and separate quick-release both for Trendelenburg and back section.

Kidney/thorax surgery with convenient operating table setup

Practico, the mobile, electricity-powered operating table designed and manufactured by Merivaara, has been updated with a new integrated kidney bridge back section. Together with the new adjustable head rest, the kidney bridge provides convenient positioning for kidney and thorax procedures, also for shorter patients.

Practico is also suitable for other types of surgery, particularly general and day surgery, such as EYE/ENT, shoulder arthroscopy and gynaecology/urology surgery.

At ArabHealth, Merivaara will also showcase its heavy-duty electro-hydraulic operating table Promerix, which is suitable for most surgical procedures.
