Arab Health Ebook 2011

In the GCC, the healthcare workforce is very diverse in terms of culture and training backgrounds, which induce differences when communicating to patients. Recent studies show that despite the needs for comprehensive medical services in the region, there is still a gap in communication and fundamental clinical skills of healthcare practitioners. A minimum standard of competency and expertise should be created to ensure quality and patient safety. This strain is further challenged as a large portion of the healthcare workforce is transient in the region, creating a high turnover rate.

In this month’s issue of the Arab Health e-book we speak to Dr Sarper H. Tanli, Executive Director of Methodist International, Europe-Middle East-Africa, about the role of simulation training in educating the region’s healthcare workforce.

I hope you enjoy reading this issue of Arab Health e-book, and feel free to comment on any of the articles.

iSOFT, a CSC company and one of the world’s largest healthcare IT companies, is showing a range of solutions for integrated care that are proven at hospitals across the globe and selected for the burgeoning needs of healthcare providers across the Middle East.

Among the solutions on show are:

  • enterprise hospital information system (Enterprise Manager) installed at 60 hospitals across the Middle East
  • primary care solution used at GP practices and clinics in Spain and South America
  • e-prescribing and medicines management solution used at 50 hospitals in Australia, New Zealand and the UK and shown to halve medication errors
  • enterprise-wide resource scheduling system used by 70 customers at over 120 sites across Europe and Scandinavia to maximize resources and cut costs
  • enterprise laboratory information system proven at 350 laboratories across Europe, including Germany, the Netherlands and Russia
  • radiology information system implemented at over 260 hospitals and clinics across Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Hungary, and Saudi Arabia.

These integrate with existing hospital, patient and clinical systems to provide essential functions without the need for replacement or heavy investments and are shown to improve efficiency and care quality, while reducing risk and costs.

Mahmoud Al-Atari, iSOFT’s regional sales director, says these solutions clearly demonstrate iSOFT’s strength, experience and international reach. “Our continued presence at Arab Health reflects the importance of the region to iSOFT. We see huge opportunities for companies such as iSOFT that offer highly innovative healthcare solutions,” he said.

“iSOFT’s commitment to the region includes ensuring that innovative solutions proven at sites worldwide are introduced to the emerging healthcare landscape in the Middle East. These integrated, enterprise solutions are highly-suited to current market needs,” Mr Al-Atari added.
