The objective of this Seminar is to provide an up-to-date introduction and overview of the rapidly developing field of Quality of Life in medicine and healthcare.
Consideration of the Quality of Life construct can assist The Middle East healthcare system to improve the design and delivery of healthcare for the benefit of patients and their families.
Quality of Life plays a vital role in medicine and healthcare because:
1. Much of medicine and healthcare is concerned with maintaining and maximizing patient Quality of Life
2. Quality of Life provides a common pathway for healthcare providers, patients and families
3. Quality of Life is particularly important in conditions where cure may not be possible but where healthcare can make significant contributions to the welfare of patients and their families
4. Quality of Life provides a unique unifying construct that allows consideration of the biological, psychological, social, spiritual and economic aspects of patient care.
