Dubai, UAE | 19 January 2022

Abdul Latif Jameel Health will introduce five of its innovative, groundbreaking partners and their state of the art technology for the first time at Arab Health, the leading medical equipment exhibition in the Middle East.

On January 25 and January 26, Dr. Akram Bouchenaki, CEO, Abdul Latif Jameel Health, will take to the Arab Health show floor of the Transformation Zone S2.D70 to introduce and showcase technologically advanced devices which can accelerate access to modern medical care for those who need it most, driving health care inclusion for the markets of the global south.

Working with Butterfly Network Inc., Abdul Latif Jameel Health will introduce the Butterfly iQ+, the world’s first, single probe, whole-body ultrasound solution which is designed to make ultrasounds easy to use.  Once connected to an iOS or Android device, the medical professional can select from 22 presets in seconds and start scanning.  Butterfly is working to democratize medical imaging and contribute to the aspiration of global health equity by allowing its handheld device to reach communities and people in need.  With technology ahead of its time, the Butterfly iQ+ allows the limits of what is possible to be pushed.  Butterfly’s product showcase on Wednesday January 26, 15:30PM will be led by Dr. Peter Weimersheimer, VP, Clinical Implementation, Butterfly Network Inc.

Abdul Latif Jameel General Trading in Tokyo, Japan formed a working relationship with Cellspect, a Japanese organization which develops and produces next generation Point of Care Testing (PoCT) devices which enable multiple blood testing parameters to be screened simultaneously.  The audience in the Product Tour at Arab Health will be able to understand how basic biochemical tests such as ‘sugar metabolism’, ‘lipid’, and ‘liver function’ can be easily measured with just a single drop of blood from the patient’s finger.  The device is simple to use, compact and portable for use in remote areas and rural settings, and results are delivered in less than five minutes making it rapid, cost-competitive, and accessible to populations in developing countries.  Mr. Takuya Iwabuchi (岩渕拓也) Founder and CEO, Cellspect, will present their product live on Wednesday January 26, 15:00PM.

The Japanese Organization for Medical Device Development (JOMDD) and Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health announced a partnership with Abdul Latif Jameel Health to introduce and represent AVNeo (Aortic Valve Neocuspidization), a pioneering life-saving procedure into Saudi Arabia and other emerging markets.  The technique uses the patient’s own pericardial tissue to reconstruct the aortic heart valve, with latest data showing the 10-year survival rate was 85.9% for AVNeo compared to less than 80% for alternative procedures.  Mr. Takahiro Uchida (内田毅彦), CEO JOMDD and Damon Lawson, Commercial Director JOMDD will present on Wednesday January 26, 16:00PM.

A strategic collaboration between Abdul Latif Jameel Health – through Abdul Latif Jameel General Trading Co., Japan – and Holoeyes Inc. will see the distribution of an innovative 3D extended reality (XR) technology surgery support system and medical education software to a potential market of more than 2.4 million physicians across the Middle East and Africa.  Taking traditional two-dimensional imaging such as MRI and CT scans, Holoeyes’ virtual software uses AI to build a personalized three-dimensional surgical environment.  Visitors to this product demonstration will see how an uploaded CT data is converted into a 3D image and a case-specific VR/MR application is generated and ready to use within minutes.  Dr. Maki Sugimoto (杉本真樹) Co-founder and COO, and Naoji Taniguchi (谷口直嗣) Co-founder and CEO will present the Holoeyes technology on Tuesday January 25, 15:30PM

Melody International has developed the iCTG, the world’s smallest mobile fetal monitor that uses the principle of real time autocorrelation.  Together, Abdul Latif Jameel Health and Melody aim to reduce the risk of perinatal emergencies or deaths across the Middle East and Africa.  Despite its size, iCTG has the same functionality as conventional hospital-based machines and is approved by Japan’s Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Agency.  The Arab Health Product Demonstration will show visitors that the iCTG is composed of two small devices worn by the expectant mother; one measures the fetal heart rate and the other measures uterine contractions. Until now, such technology was only available inside hospitals, but its portability allows it to be used in any location, even by non-medical personnel.  Ms. Yuko Ogata, (尾形優子) Founder & CEO, and Mr. Keiji Ninomiya, (二ノ宮敬冶)(CIO, Melody International, will present the device Tuesday January 25, 15:00PM

Dr. Akram Bouchenaki
, CEO, Abdul Latif Jameel Health, said: “This is a unique opportunity for us to communicate to the region’s medical community the breadth of our partnerships and caliber of organizations that we are seeking out and supporting.  The technology that we will introduce to the Arab Health visitors is disrupting the status quo of the healthcare industry and I know it will open the eyes of what is really possible in terms of accelerating access to healthcare for those who need it most.
“I am very much looking forward to speaking to my peers in the industry about the potential of these devices and the technology that supports them.”
Fady Jameel, Deputy President and Vice Chairman, Abdul Latif Jameel, added: “Improving access to healthcare is a complex puzzle requiring a deep understanding of both needs and solutions – including technology, infrastructure, distribution.  Addressing these issues has proved to be one of society’s biggest challenges. But now more than ever, we have the technology and expertise to start making real progress.  And I’m hugely excited by the opportunities ahead as we showcase some of our partners on this journey at Arab Health 2022
.”
