Medilink North of England Turns 25

Medilink will celebrate its 25th anniversary this May, a momentous occasion for any organisation. A quarter of a century has passed since Medilink was founded to support the healthcare and life sciences sector in the North of England and since that time we have supported thousands of organisations to innovate and improve patient care.

During this time, we have seen significant changes take place within the industry. Digital health has exploded from its infancy in 1997 to what it is today – a hugely successful part of the health ecosystem. Diagnostics have been propelled forward in recent years, largely as the result of the pandemic, and have put the UK on the map for life sciences.

Medilink has evolved from a Yorkshire based membership organisation into a North of England-wide business support and connectivity professional association, serving hundreds of organisations across the region.

Key milestones over the last 25 years have included expanding from a Northern model to a national one through the creation of the Medilink UK network in 2001, which saw the creation of regional hubs across the country; exceeding a national membership of over 2,000 organisations and the executive changes that took place in 2022 with Kevin Kiely, Medilink’s co-founder, stepping into the role of Executive Chair and Tom Elliott becoming Managing Director.

Commenting on Medilink’s anniversary year, Tom Elliott, Managing Director, said “Throughout the last 25 years, Medilink has engaged with companies across the medical technology and life science sector, with a mission to improve and transform healthcare. It has been a pleasure to lead on our international programme and I am now looking forward to the next 25 years and in particular the phenomenal achievements and innovations that our companies will make within the sector.”

Reflecting on the long-standing partnership between Informa Markets and Medilink, Wouter Molman, Executive Vice President, said “The partnership between Informa and Medilink has grown over the last 20 years from their early participation at Arab Health through to new projects in emerging markets. We will continue to deliver industry leading exhibitions and market access solutions alongside our UK partners Medilink North of England and Medilink UK.”.
