The Emirates Speech Language Pathology Society at Arab Health 2021

Arab Health is hosting The Emirates Speech Language Pathology Society in two very thought provoking sessions on the 23rd of June 2021, under the title: “Maximizing Outcomes in Speech Language Pathology”.  These sessions aim to enhance knowledge and skills of participants in recent evidence based practice related to the COVID -19 pandemic. Included in this session is a panel discussion by experts in the field of speech language pathology, respiratory therapy, and otolaryngology. These experts will be discussing airway, communication, and swallowing management in patients with tracheostomy during the COVID-19 pandemic. This presentation aims to aid participants to be able to integrate knowledge to analyze, evaluate, and manage this population from a multidisciplinary perspective.  The second presentation will explore communication approaches for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and the impact of COVID-19. It aims to enrich participants’ understanding of communication approaches for deaf and hard of hearing children during the COVID-19 pandemic by looking at different approaches that can assist their communication.

About the ESLPS

The Emirates SLP Society (ESLPS), founded by a group of Speech and Language Pathologists (SLPs) practicing in the UAE, is the only legal body representing SLPs in UAE, under the umbrella of the Emirates Medical Association.  ESLPS vision is to BE internationally recognized as the professional society for Speech Language Pathologists in UAE. Its vision is to advance and represent the interest of the SLP & their clients, in addition to increase awareness about the SLP profession and improve the quality of SLP services in UAE. ESLPS purpose is to perform important functions for the community, including research, education and advocacy, and to set standards for excellence in the speech language pathology profession.

The ESLPS is an affiliated society to the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (IALP) and had (submitted) the bid for IALP congress in 2019; ESLPS was shortlisted as one of the 3 finalists.

In 2019, the ESLPS has signed Memorandums of Understanding with the MENA region SLP Societies; KSA, Tunisia, and Morocco. The aim is to foster scientific knowledge and research through constant learning, education, and best practice exchange, with the goal to better support patients in the field of Speech and Language Pathology.

ESLPS is organizing variety of webinar in May to celebrate May as Better Hearing and Speech Month, and planning for its 3rd Regional Conference in October 2021 as well as a conference in collaboration with ASHA in 2024.
