What is Colostrum?

Colostrum, also known as “life’s first food”, is a milky fluid produced by mammalian mothers in the first few days after birth.

Colostrum appears before a mammalian mother’s true milk. Even though all mammals produce colostrum, supplements are usually made from the colostrum of cows. This supplement is known as bovine colostrum. Our Colostrum comes from only the first milk (12 hours after calving) provided by selected breeders, from a carefully selected cattle breeds that are properly fed and maintained in accordance with European regulations on animal welfare. Bovine colostrum contains macronutrients, vitamins and minerals. It’s especially high in protein compounds that regulate immune responses and promote growth including lactoferrin, growth factors and antibodies.

Effects of Colostrum across the human body

Colostrum helps balance and maintain the immune function limiting the risk of illness.

Immunoglobulins, cytokines, interferon, lactoferrin and PRPs help the immune system self-regulate and identify and mark pathogens for destruction. This helps in restoring immunity, preventing infection and speed up recovery from illness.

Colostrum helps improve gut health.

Growth factors and hormones help restore a leaky gut to normal permeability levels, a primary cause of autoimmune disease, and antibodies and immunoglobulins help control harmful bacteria and fungi.

Colostrum contains antibodies that work against allergens that affect humans.

These work against ryegrass pollen, house dust mites, Aspergillus mould and wheat proteins, which are common allergens to humans. Many additional antibodies are present in colostrum which cross-react with allergens of importance. The immunoglobulin IgE found in colostrum is thought to be responsible for regulating the allergic response.

Upper airway infection in people who exercise.

Research shows that taking bovine colostrum for 8-12 weeks can reduce the number of episodes and symptoms of upper airway infections in people who exercise.

Taking bovine colostrum seems to reduce infectious diarrheoa in children and people with a weakened immune system, including those with HIV/AIDS and bone marrow transplant recipients.

Lactoferrin, another compound present in Colostrum activates antigen response pathways enhancing enzymatic activity. Lactoferrin boosts healthy immune stimulating responses by decreasing the toxic load on the lymphatic system.

BioLiyfe Colostrum is a unique dietary supplement in gastro-resistant DRcaps™, to ensure that the active substance reaches the small intestine, where it is absorbed for guaranteed effectiveness.
