Dr Patrick Merel
Director of Genomics

Dr Patrick Merel got his PhD in Molecular Biology from University of Bordeaux, France. With 20 years of academic experience, he has been building and running molecular diagnostic, genetic and genomic clinical settings as well a translational research platform through several directorships while at Bordeaux Blood Bank Center, then at University Hospital of Bordeaux, from 1987 to 2012.

Dr Patrick has built a strong experience in the industry as well, moving to San Diego, CA, in 2004-2005, to be in residence consultant for Beckman Coulter Inc. executive team, helping the CEO to move the company into the molecular IVD business and participating to major M&A projects.

Dr Patrick has moved back to the USA in 2012, to become entrepreneur and start 2 companies in San Diego, Portable Genomics, Inc. a genomics and digital health company, and Edico Genome, a bioinformatics hardware company, who developed the Dragen, sold to Illumina in 2018. Dr Patrick Merel, is now the Director of Genomics at G42 Healthcare, in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
