Ole Per Maloy is a seasoned CEO and Siemens Healthineers veteran with over 33 years of experience with the company, holding the reins for Siemens Healthineers in the Middle East and Southern and Eastern Africa region since January 2018.  Prior to this appointment, Ole has held several leadership positions in the company as Senior Vice President and General Manager for the company’s Diagnostic Imaging portfolio for Western Europe and Western Africa, and CEO of Nordics and Baltics. With a wealth of local and international experience behind him, Ole oversees strategies to realize the company’s ambition to provide quality healthcare and increase access to care for everyone, everywhere, in a region as diverse as the Middle East and Africa.

Knowing that Siemens Healthineers is at the center of clinical decision-making across the healthcare spectrum, Ole’s vision is to make healthcare more affordable and accessible to all who need it, especially to more vulnerable communities. This vision, ties closely in with the topic of sustainability, an area that is a core focus in South Africa which has seen multiple projects such as Primary health care solutions, skills development program and youth employment services come to life. By continuously working with leading minds in healthcare to drive innovation in the region, Siemens Healthineers is transforming healthcare to reach the next level in diagnostic precision, laboratory automation and workflow optimization as well as in service provision. 

Ole holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Norwegian School of Management in Oslo and has a background in electrical engineering from Møre og Romsdal Engineering College, Ålesund, Norway. Ole was a member of the Kuratorium of German, the Norwegian Chamber of Commerce from 2009-2012, and has a published a study on Telecommunication Markets in Norway after deregulation in 1998. He is fluent in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, English and German. 


Tell us about your organization and its journey to date.

We as Siemens Healthineers are aware of our place and responsibility in the healthcare industry and we emphasize this with our purpose: “We pioneer breakthroughs in healthcare. For everyone. Everywhere.” This is why we give our best every day, to improve the lives of patients and their families. Supported by our Access to Care initiative, we are trying to increase the reach of healthcare professionals and the coverage of medical examinations and equipment, to open the gate to essential health services to that part of the world population, which currently cannot benefit from it (up to 50%).

Siemens Healthineers have been pushing the boundaries in medical technology for more than 125 years. Combined with the pioneering history of Varian, our breakthroughs now span imaging, diagnostics, and cancer therapy. 

How has the organization evolved to address the challenges of an ever-changing healthcare sector? Please list some accomplishments.

As an organization, we take immense pride that innovation is part of our DNA, and we will present some of our latest achievements to the audience on our booth at Arab Health. The Middle East and Africa is growing and developing fast as a region, fostering innovation and advancement. The transformation of the industry calls for a patient focused approach and future-orientation. We want to use our innovation potential to transform the way healthcare works and to provide access to high quality healthcare where it does not exist yet. We offer more flexible and tailored imaging solutions, smart remote services and optimized, AI driven workflow automations, decreasing diagnosis time and costs. One of our top priorities which we strive to achieve is to make healthcare more attainable and affordable. To accomplish this objective across our region, we support healthcare institutions, organizations and governments in closing patient care and education gaps and in reducing costs of care per case. 

Give us an insight into your portfolio and solutions targeted at the Middle East region.

As we are servicing our customers in an extremely diverse region, the Middle East and Africa require different keys to unlock the full potential of their healthcare markets, depending on location, infrastructure, and healthcare system. Therefore, our entire and comprehensive landscape of equipment and services is relevant to the region, from in-vitro and in-vivo diagnostics to image-guided therapy and innovative cancer care.

We also see an increasing demand across the region for our Value Partnership solutions, long-term, performance-oriented, collaborative engagements with healthcare institutions, to which Siemens Healthineers contributes a combination of clinical insights, medical innovation, strategic vision, and implementation expertise to the advancement of healthcare. In addition, we continue to enable customers and partners to create local and regional knowledge economies through self-sustainable innovation infrastructures through our Innovation Think Tank initiatives, promoting expertise development, capacity building, and entrepreneurship at hospitals, universities, and governmental Institutions.

Tell us about your recent and upcoming investments and partnerships in this field.

We are currently engaged in multiple collaborations in the Middle East and Africa e.g with the World Health Organization (WHO), RAD-AID International or the Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), aiming to make a difference through improving healthcare infrastructure and access to affordable healthcare education in Syria, Ghana, Kenya, or Senegal. These are just a few of many initiatives we are supporting, which aim to improve access to healthcare.In addition and for 2023, we will keep our focus on Value Partnerships and continue to foster and create Innovation Think Tank collaborations across the region.

What will you be showcasing at Arab Health 2023?

Visitors to our booth can look forward to experiencing our latest innovations across our comprehensive portfolio as we are presenting our solutions with special focus on the most threatening NCDs (non-communicable diseases) stroke, coronary artery disease, and cancer. One of our highlights will be the first ever presentation in the Middle East of the world’s first photon-counting CT, the NAEOTOM Alpha with Quantum Technology, a total reinvention of computed tomography. We will also provide attendees with a hands-on experience of our latest innovation in MRI, the MAGNETOM Free.Max, setting new standards in patient comfort and in making healthcare accessible for everyone. 

In addition to the above, what opportunities are you looking forward to at the upcoming event? 

For us, Arab Health is always a wonderful opportunity to meet our customers and the industry face-to-face and enables us to provide them with a first-hand experience of our latest advancements in medical technology. It is also a valuable opportunity for us to have open dialogues, gather different perspectives and to learn more about the ever-changing challenges across the different countries in our region. 

Please tell us about your plans for the year 2023.

In 2023, we as Siemens Healthineers will continue to support our customers in actively shaping the transformation of healthcare, to improve quality of outcomes and to fight together the world’s most threatening diseases. We will sustain our efforts and extend our regional partnerships to close patient care and education gaps. A specific focus will be on how we can contribute to improving access to care in currently underserved areas in - but not limited to - Africa. For this task of paramount importance, we will be using our entire bandwidth of products and services, providing equipment, facilitating education and support in building up required infrastructures.
